Material Innovations in Electric-Drive Systems —The Role of Engineering Plastics

Solution Study

Monday, September 29

12:05 pm - 12:30 pm

Live in Berlin

Less Details

The rising demand for efficient and reliable electric motors calls for advanced materials that fulfill rigorous performance standards. This presentation highlights current applications utilizing engineering plastics, as well as explores innovative concepts that could leverage these materials in future designs. It is important to note that electric motors consist of numerous diverse components, and the requirements for these plastics can vary significantly depending on their specific applications. Key topics include the use of insulation materials for Power Electronics and high-voltage connectors, emphasizing their electrical insulation properties and thermal stability. Additionally, we will explore the media resistance of components, highlighting the durability and longevity of EP’s in harsh environments. Another focal point is the potential of these materials as metal substitutes in motor carriers, showcasing their lightweight characteristics and structural integrity. By leveraging the unique properties of Polyamide 6 (PA6), Polyamide 66 (PA66) and Polybutylenterephthalat (PBT), manufacturers can enhance motor performance, reduce weight, and improve overall efficiency, thus contributing to the advancement of electric mobility solutions.

This presentation aims to provide insights into material selection strategies that align with the evolving requirements of electric motor applications.

You will learn more about:

  • Plastics with strong insulation and thermal stability
  • Lightweight materials replacing metal in motors
  • Selecting the right materials for each motor part
