Pär Ingelström

Researcher - Method Development Electric Powertrain Verification, SEEL Swedish Electric Transport Laboratory

After completing a PhD in computational electromagnetics at Chalmers University of Technology 2004, he started working with electrical machines R&D at ABB Corporate Research, Sweden. From 2012 to 2019, he was with Volvo Group Trucks Technology, where he was appointed specialist in electric traction and electromagnetism. 2019-21 he worked with electric drive hardware systems development at Polestar, and 2022-2023 he held a position as an electric drive hardware expert at Infimotion Technology Europe. At the end of 2023, he joined SEEL, Swedish Electric Transport Laboratory, working with research and methods for electric powertrain development and verification.
The Pop in Your Job:
I love “optimisation” – when we improve our lives, our world, our existence. Especially when we do this together, and the sense of community this brings.
I also have a passion for understanding and modeling physics – especially when it can help us improve our world in some way.
At SEEL we have the possibility to collaborate with academia and industry and build common new knowledge.

Innovating the Future — Challenges in E-Powertrain Testing and Development

Case Study

Tuesday, September 30

10:00 am - 10:30 am

Live in Berlin

Less Details

As the demand for electric vehicles and sustainable technologies grows, the need for advanced test and verification methods for electric powertrains becomes increasingly important. This presentation explores trends in e-powertrain development and the related testing requirements. A key topic is the integration of model-based development and testing. Additional focus will be given to challenging topics, such as energy efficiency, NVH, durability and EMC – and how we can handle these.

In this presentation, you will get:

  • Insights into challenges with emerging e-motor technologies, such as FPGA-based motor control and >800-volt systems with wide band-gap inverters
  • Find out how the industry can significantly accelerate the development of next-generation electric drives – by performing less testing!
  • Examples of how widely accepted methods and assumptions no longer hold when we are pushing boundaries in e-motor development

How Can Innovations in Testing and Design Enhance E-Motor Efficiency and Reliability?

3 | Testing & Development Café

Tuesday, September 30

11:00 am - 03:00 pm

Live in Berlin

Less Details

  • How will requirements on e-motors change in the future?
  • How can we ensure that rapid development does not compromise the reliability and safety of e-motors?
  • How can advanced materials, such as high-conductivity thermal interfaces or new magnet compositions, address energy efficiency challenges in e-motor design?
  • What are the implications of electromagnetic interference (EMI) in e-motor systems, and how can testing protocols be adapted to mitigate these effects?
  • How can modular testing setups improve the scalability of e-motor testing processes while ensuring compliance with industry standards?
  • What technical skills related to simulation, data analysis, electromagnetics and material science will be critical for the next generation of engineers in the e-motor industry?

SEEL Swedish Electric Transport Laboratory

https://www.ri.se/en/seel
SEEL Swedish Electric Transport Laboratory, is a collaboration between Chalmers and RISE for research and development of electromobility. SEEL has three test facilities: Gothenburg, Nykvarn and Borås. The aim of SEEL is to improve efficient knowledge development and cooperation to accelerate the evolution of electrified transports. SEEL will also contribute to the establishment of a sustainable and competitive battery value chain in Sweden and Europe. The automotive, aerospace, and maritime sectors, together with developers of relevant technology, will gain the possibility to test prototypes and products at independent test facilities with state-of-the-art equipment. Business actors will gain a common platform to meet and jointly benefit from the ongoing knowledge development and technology shift. Researchers from academia and institutes will at the same time gain access to advanced research infrastructure in the field of electromobility.
